Did you know that 4 million people in the U.S wear braces? Twenty five percent of that number are adults. The braces that are available today are quite different than what was available when you were a child. Because of these advancements, more and more adults are seeking solutions to correct alignment issues that were not addressed in childhood. Have you been wanting to straighten your teeth? It's not too late. Some Biomechanical Limitations You May FaceIt is better to get braces as a child. The bones of a child are still soft and growing. Today, orthodontic treatment is being taken more seriously at a younger age than it was when we were kids. In our day, it was normal to see the orthodontist for the first time during our teen years and to go through high school with metal braces. Today, the recommendation is to see the orthodontist as soon as a child's permanent teeth come in, which could be around the age of 6 or 7.Why Should Teens Use Invisalign®?For years, orthodontists and dentists have used removable appliances for limited treatment. Today, with the application of computer technology and custom manufacturing, Invisalign® treats a broader range of cases with greater precision. Invisalign® uses 3-D computer imaging technology to depict the complete treatment plan, from the initial position to the final desired position, from which a series of custom-made clear "aligners" are produced. Each "aligner" moves teeth incrementally and is worn for about two weeks, then is replaced by the next in the series until the final position is achieved. With Invisalign®, you can straighten your teeth without anyone knowing. Unlike braces, you can eat and drink what you want during treatment, because you can remove the trays. You can also brush and floss normally to maintain good oral hygiene. Because there are no metal brackets or wires to cause mouth irritation, you spend less time in the doctor's chair getting adjustments.
