|It is a staple in many kid's lunchboxes. It is something that people eat with their breakfast. White bread is found in the homes of many people, but that does not mean it is the healthiest of choices.
While white bread is a staple that people eat every day, it is also something that is damaging their body. White bread actually damages teeth. Learning how it does, this could help people switch to other foods in their daily diet.
The Dangers in Your Mouth
There are a lot of things going on in your mouth. There are bacteria growing on your teeth, gums and tongue. You generate saliva which helps control the bacteria and helps wash away any debris in your teeth and gums. You have minerals and vitamins working to restore any damage in your mouth.
To function properly, you need to give fuel to your body. The fuel comes from food. The food you eat can affect all of those things happening in your mouth. The bacteria love sugar. It is something they can feed on as they work to eat away at the enamel of your teeth. Given enough time, the bacteria will form plaque and the plaque will lead to tooth decay and cavities. Your goal is to limit the impact the food you eat has on what happens in your mouth.
The Role of White Bread
White bread uses processed flour, which removes many of the nutrients that you can get from whole wheat flour. It has starches in it which turn it into a simple carbohydrate. That breaks down further into a simple sugar that the bacteria will feed on.
The white bread also lingers in the mouth longer than other foods. That gives the bacteria more time to eat and expand. The bacteria also produce an acid when they feed on the sugars. That acid eats away at the enamel and leads to tooth decay.
If you want a healthy mouth, you should avoid the foods that are high in sugar such as white bread. Turn to healthier alternatives that will keep you smiling.
