This is how you save a knocked-out tooth

Posted on 1/10/2022 by Dr Jonathan Ford
This is how you save a knocked-out toothMany people around the country suffer knocked out teeth for various reasons. Children and adults undergo pain and torment after a tooth is knocked and many do not know what to do. You can knock out your teeth while at work, falling off the stairs or your bike, and during contact sport. The experience results in excruciating pain and bleeding. But did you know you can save your knocked-out tooth? At our practice treat many patients who come with knocked teeth, and help them return to their optimal oral wellbeing. Proper urgent care can save your tooth, replanting it to remain in position for years into the future.

Promptness is crucial

The actions that you perform in the first thirty minutes will determine if you will be able to save your tooth. Within this time make sure you contact our dentist and schedule an appointment. Our endodontist will help replant your tooth in position.

Locate the tooth immediately, and pick it up making sure to hold the chewing or crown surface. Do not touch the root of the tooth. Clean the tooth, rinsing using clean water. Do dry or scrub your fallen tooth. Also, make sure not to wrap It in a cloth or tissue.

Try repositioning your tooth back in the socket immediately

While holding the crown surface, try putting the tooth in its original position. Gently push it using a finger. Hold it in position by biting softly on it, or by using your fingers.

Keep your tooth moist always

If you are unable to place it back in its original position, make sure to keep it moist. You can do this by holding it in your mouth, around the cheek area, or placing it in milk. Do place it in tap water, as this can be damaging.

Our dentists treat all kinds of dental emergencies, and we have helped many patients with knocked-out teeth. Come to our practice if you require your knocked-out tooth.
