What Does It Mean If Your Gums Hurt?
The gums are usually not problematic for most people and therefore don't get as much attention. However, when they start hurting, you might be concerned as to the reason why. Gum swelling, pain, or bleeding can be caused by several conditions.

Rough Flossing and Brushing

Great dental hygiene dictates that we brush and floss our teeth every day. However, sometimes you might tend to overdo it and thereby cause irritation to your gums. This is especially true when you use stiff-bristled toothbrushes. Unless otherwise instructed, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and be careful not to be too aggressive when flossing.

Periodontal Disease

Otherwise known as gum disease, periodontal disease is commonly exhibited by swollen red and bleeding gums. When you ignore your dental health for a long time, your gums will often suffer for it. The most common type of this disease is gingivitis, which is very aggressive and causes a lot of pain and discomfort in certain nerve-rich corners of the mouth.

Mouth Sores

Also known as canker sores, these are non-contagious sores that often show up on the gums and other places on the mouth. These sores are very painful and also cause the victim a lot of discomfort. They often appear red and sometimes have a white coating and are thought to be a result of a bacterial or viral infection. Since these sores appear on the gum, they are likely to be swollen, painful, and very sensitive. Although they don't have a specific medical treatment, they often disappear within 14 days.

An Allergic Reaction to Some Dental Products

Some people are very sensitive to some of the components that are used to create certain kinds of toothpaste and mouthwash. In such a case, it's only a matter of finding out which brand works for you and sticking to it.
Pain to the gums is not natural, and you should not ignore it. The smart move is to get in touch with us as soon as it's clear that something is not right. We can then perform the necessary tests and determine the way forward.
