|Biting down on your front teeth can pose a multitude of dental complications. There are many reasons you may bite down on your front teeth. For most people, an overbite is the primary cause for biting down on their front teeth.
However, it's possible overcrowding of the front teeth cause it too. Other problems that cause biting down on the front teeth include, an open bite, a cross bite, and an underbite. Open bites can cause biting of the front teeth as well.
Biting down on your front teeth is problematic because it causes stress on your teeth. Teeth stress can lead to chipped or broken teeth. Besides being annoying, front teeth that clink together cause jaw complications. Between teeth stress and jaw complications, biting down on your front teeth is terrible for your overall oral health. It may even lead to premature tooth loss and gum disease if not corrected.
How to Correct Overcrowding and Misaligned Bites
Fortunately, there are many methods that can help solve the problems that cause biting the front teeth. Most commonly, we use braces to correct teeth that are overcrowded. To fix problems with bite alignment, we often use braces as well. However, in some drastic cases, it may be necessary to implement oral surgery to correct a bite. Many different things cause a misaligned bite so it's difficult to say which method is best for correcting one unless we can seem them.
