|You have been told since you were a child that it is important to brush your teeth before you go to bed. That does not mean that it always happens. It could be that you forget sometimes, or maybe from time to time you are just too tired.
Is it really important to brush your teeth before you go to bed each night? What happens if you do not do it for some reason?
Your mouth is filled with bacteria which will start to multiply after you eat something. Simply put, they eat what you just ate. As they multiply, they start to make plaque. If you brush at night before you go to bed, you will cut down on the damage that the bacteria can do. If you do not brush, the bacteria will continue to make plaque. It will hurt your teeth, and it can hurt your gums as well. If the plaque hardens, you will not be able to remove it yourself, you will need to see us to do it.
Not only will you risk damaging your teeth and gums if you do not brush, you will risk upsetting those who live with you. Another thing that you will experience because of the bacteria is bad breath. It is not just "morning breath" if you did not brush, your breath will be worse than you realize.
There are no excuses for not brushing your teeth before bed. If you tend to forget, keep a reminder on your nightstand so that you will see it before you go turn off the light. Set a reminder on your phone. Do anything that you can to make brushing at night a habit. We will notice the difference at your next dental appointment, and you will as well.
