|Have you ever had that morning cup of coffee, and suddenly a start pain shoots through your mouth? That might mean you have tooth sensitivity.
Tooth sensitivity is the sudden pain or discomfort in teeth in response to changes in temperature or when exposed to certain materials. Sensitivity can even be experienced when breathing air through the mouth.
You may have temporary tooth sensitivity if you have just had a dental procedure or whitening treatment. If sensitivity does not go away, it may be a sign of a bigger problem, such as a cavity, cracked tooth, receding gums, gingivitis, plaque buildup, or another issue.
This is a common dental problem that can be managed and treated. If you are one of the 40 million people in the U.S. who experiences tooth sensitivity, there are ways to manage the pain and discomfort of the condition.
What To Do For Tooth Sensitivity
We recommend setting up an appointment with us if you are experiencing unexpected tooth sensitivity. After a dental procedure or whitening treatment, some sensitivity may be expected, and we would have talked to you about this side-effect.
If after these procedures you find the sensitivity too hard to take or it seems to be lasting longer than expected, we want to see you so that we can help.
If you have not had a recent dental procedure and are experiencing tooth sensitivity, we highly recommend making an appointment with us so that we can diagnose and treat the problem. We don't want you to have bigger issues later by ignoring the messages your teeth are trying to send you that something isn't right.
In the meantime, here are some ways to manage the sensitivity while you are awaiting your dental visit:
Hopefully your sensitivity is temporary and following these steps will have you feeling like yourself in no time!
But, if you keep feeling that twinge of pain longer than expected, don't hesitate to call! We want to see you so that can help your mouth feel happy and healthy!
