|Dentures are devices that are used to replace missing teeth and act as an artificial set of teeth in one or more areas of your mouth. People with sets of missing teeth can have problems with their speech, chewing food, and self-esteem.
Dentures have developed a great deal in the last few decades. Now there are different types of dentures that can help you restore your teeth and boost your self-confidence. You can choose to have temporary or permanent dentures.
Dentures that Come Out
Normally, temporary dentures are prescribed if the patient has missing teeth and they need to wait to get their permanent dentures fitted. Temporary dentures are particularly useful for people with sensitive teeth. They can protect the gum and make chewing food easier. They are also useful in getting your mouth used to dentures before the permanent ones arrive.
You can begin to learn to adjust your speech to new dentures and you do not have to worry about people seeing gaps of missing teeth. The main disadvantage is that there is an added cost, since you will have to get permanent dentures later to prevent your jawbone from deteriorating.
Permanent dentures take time to prepare. Our dentists have to take digital impressions of your jaw and teeth to create precise models. The models can be adjusted to ensure the fit is right. You may be required to wear the device 24 hours a day to check for any signs of discomfort or ill fitting spots on the gum.
Permanent dentures provide a more precise fit that is more comfortable for the patient than temporary ones. Dentures with a good fit do not cause irritation of the gums, therefore reducing the risk of complications.
