Is a Filling That Sits Too High a Problem?

Posted on 10/20/2019 by Dr Jonathan Ford
Is a Filling That Sits Too High a Problem? One of the most important decisions you can make with your oral health care is choosing an office that has the expertise and experience to perform procedures you need. Something as simple as leaving too much filling on your tooth after a simple cavity can cause a lot of pain and affect your overall health.

Signs Your Filling Is Too High

One of the first signs of a high filling is experiencing pain when you bite down, this is due to your ligaments around the tooth starting to swell. You may feel sensitivity in the teeth the filling comes in contact with because it wears down the enamel, causing a cavity or even the nerve to become exposed. As the ligaments strain and swell around the filled tooth it is common to begin to have headaches or migraines frequently. If you suspect you have a high filling, please set up an appointment at our office and have it corrected as soon as possible.

How to Correct It
Give our office a call and schedule an appointment. We have repaired other dentist's mistakes in the past, therefore we possess the experience to repair your teeth. We recommend experts like our office because we've found often enough, there is further damage to your teeth outside the high filling.

High fillings can wear down the enamel, causing tooth decay and cavities. In some cases, the filling can even loosen, or crack another tooth. This requires further dental care on top of filing the filling down. It can also shift your teeth, crowding them together, allowing bacteria to settle in parts of your teeth far removed from the filling.

The longer you wait to address this problem the more problems you'll experience all around your mouth. If caught in the beginning, the filling can be filed down immediately. The jaw pain will subside quickly and you can be on your way. If you think you may have a tall filling, give us a call and we will schedule you for an appointment to examine it.
