Top 3 Reasons Your Jaw May Hurt When You Wake Up in the MorningHave you ever woken up and felt like your jaw hurt? Pain in the jaw when you wake up can lead to a variety of other symptoms that range from headaches to tooth pain.

It is possible that the jaw pain does not mean anything and that it goes away, but you should learn some of the reasons that it happens at all. It is possible that you can do something to eliminate the pain.

Three reasons

The reasons for jaw pain are often related to something that happens when you sleep, something is off with the structure of your jaw or you have another problem in that area that creates jaw pain.

These are the three common reasons your jaw hurts:

•  Bruxism - At the top of the list is bruxism. This is also known as teeth grinding. Some people grind their teeth together as they sleep They are working the muscles of the jaw. They are also damaging their teeth. When you grind your teeth, you are putting pressure on your jaw which could lead to jaw pain in the morning.
•  TMJ - TMJ disorder is a condition where the temporomandibular joint that connects the jaw to the side of the head does not work properly. When the joint acts up, one of the symptoms is jaw pain. If you are moving your jaw while you sleep, it could cause a problem with the joint and that is why you have pain when you wake up.
•  Cavities or other Tooth problems - An untreated cavity can cause pain in the jaw. It is also possible to feel pain in the jaw from an impacted wisdom tooth. While you may experience this pain at any time during the day, it is also possible to wake up with pain because of this.

The most important thing to realize is that the jaw pain is a sign of a potential problem. The good news is that all of these causes are treatable.
