Aspirin, anticoagulants or blood thinners such as warfarin or heparin, are medications that can be helpful in the prevention of heart attack or stroke.

These types of medications reduce the blood's ability to clot and are necessary for many people. However, these medications can cause problems with bleeding gums.

This is especially problematic during treatment for a periodontal disease or oral surgery. It is important that the dentist is informed of any medications you are on to ensure you receive proper care.

Antidepressants

Antidepressants are known to have a negative impact on bone health, increasing the risk of developing gum disease, tooth decay, oral yeast infections, bad breath, and implant failure.

These medications also cause dry mouth, which can lead to other dental problems. Antidepressants as necessary for many people for various reasons.

Blood Pressure Medications

Heart rhythmic medications, calcium channel blockers, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, beta blockers, and diuretics are commonly prescribed medications used in the treatment of high blood pressure.

These medications sometimes cause a growth or swelling of the gums. This swelling may cause the gums to bleed or make it difficult to properly clean the teeth. To minimize bleeding, brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush using gentle movements.
